2025 priorities: Health care access, tribal council collaboration, rural representation - Legislative session update.

Advocating for Health Care Access

With the start of the 2025 legislative session around the corner, I want to share an update on my work as your new state representative, as well as the bills I’ll be proposing this year. Over the past several months, I have been engaging with constituents from diverse backgrounds, including Ute tribal members, to understand the pressing issues they face, particularly in terms of health care access. One of my key priorities is to ensure that all residents of Colorado House District have equitable access to quality health care services.

One of the primary concerns raised by Ute tribal members is the lack of access to essential health care services. Many tribal members have to travel long distances to reach the nearest health care facilities, leading to delays in receiving vital medical treatment. As part of my efforts to address this issue, I will be introducing a bill that aims to improve tribal access to health care by increasing funding for tribal health programs and expanding telehealth services to remote tribal communities.

Collaborating with Tribal Councils

In my discussions with tribal leaders, it has become clear that greater collaboration between state government and tribal councils is essential to address health care disparities effectively. By working closely with tribal councils, we can develop policies and programs that are tailored to the specific needs of tribal communities, ultimately improving health care outcomes for all residents. I am committed to fostering strong tribal council collaboration to ensure that the voices of tribal members are heard at the state level.

Through regular meetings and consultations with tribal councils, I aim to build trust and strengthen partnerships that will pave the way for meaningful change. By incorporating the perspectives and expertise of tribal leaders into the legislative process, we can create more inclusive and effective health care policies that benefit everyone in Colorado House District.

Prioritizing Rural Representation

Another key aspect of my agenda for the 2025 legislative session is to prioritize rural representation in health care decision-making. Rural communities often face unique challenges, such as limited access to trauma care facilities and specialists. By advocating for policies that address the specific needs of rural residents, we can ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to health care access.

I will be introducing a bill to allocate additional resources for rural health care providers and facilities, with a focus on improving access to trauma care services. By investing in the expansion of trauma care capabilities in rural areas, we can enhance emergency response times and save lives. Additionally, I will be pushing for the expansion of virtual care options in rural communities to increase access to medical consultations and preventive care.
